IMEG was hired by a food manufacturer to develop an AutoCAD model and optimal layout concepts for a potential 30,500 square foot plant expansion.
THE PROBLEM
No existing layout in AutoCAD
No designated travel paths for materials or operators
Underutilized floor space and inefficient travel time
floor space, layout
THE PLAN
food manufacturing optimal layout
Develop an AutoCAD layout of the existing facility
Create optimal material travel paths by performing a travel distance analysis
Maximize production floor space by performing a floor space analysis
Determine required floor space and layout options for the additional manufacturing equipment required to meet future production needs
THE RESULTS
Delivered detailed AutoCAD model for their existing facility layout
Developed five different layout concepts to plan for the arrangement of existing and future production lines and equipment in the 30,500 square foot expansion
Identified production area expansion opportunity based on customer demand trends that made a need for expansion
Developed material travel paths for existing and future layout options
Maximized production floor space y 2.6% while maintaining adequate aisle space throughout the plant
Increased value-added floor space from 48.9% to 52.4%
