Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Intern - St. Marys, OH

IMEG is looking for an Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Intern looking to gain experience within the field. Our office is located in St. Marys, OH and we have customers throughout Ohio and the US. An ideal candidate must be willing to travel, be a US Citizen, and have reliable transportation.

Job Description / Duties Required:

Update existing and develop future plant layouts (AutoCAD)
Develop layout for optimized materials staging and delivery to manufacturing operations
Develop 2D AutoCAD layout for equipment utility connections including water, air, gas, electric, and communications
Develop assembly / manufacturing processes to support new product or existing product improvements
Develop plan to improve changeover activities to increase manufacturing throughput
Identify methods to ensure standardized work is followed and reduce process variation
Work with manufacturing team members to develop continuous improvement initiatives
Time study existing work centers to identify waste and develop action plans for improvement
Develop and maintain Quality Documentation including Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA’s), Control Plans, Inspection Sheets, Work Instructions, and Quality Control Visuals
Utilize pre-determined time standards to develop process times for new and existing processes
Develop work instructions following required process sequence capturing all critical process steps
Maximize equipment capacity utilization
Develop Future State Process Map to improve handling of materials and reduction in indirect labor cost
Develop Plan for Every Part (PFEP) to optimize inventory storage methods and frequencies
Develop Work in Process (WIP) needed to support operation processes and improve material flow
Evaluate need and design for improved material handling equipment
Utilize simulation software, Simul8, to evaluate and exploit bottlenecks, and verify accuracy of plans for process improvement
Implement 5S and workplace organization practices
Maintain detailed action register with open items to review with project team for resolution
Report weekly progress to management team utilizing weekly progress report
Maintain IMEG and customer files according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
Follow IMEG defined safety practices at both IMEG office and customer locations
Utilize IMEG standard operating procedures (SOP’s) to complete project work

Job Description / Duties Advantageous:

Evaluate existing manufacturing equipment to identify methods for improvement
Develop 3D mechanical designs using SolidWorks and 2D shop prints using AutoCAD
Develop mechanical designs that follow all OSHA safety requirements
Account for operator safety, ergonomics, and cycle time in equipment design
Account for effective maintenance procedures in equipment design
Design error proofing concepts (poke-yoke) into mechanical and electrical design
Review and understand customer product design and functionality
Develop IMEG standard operating procedures (SOP’s)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Advantageous:

Ability to conceptualize and organize plans to achieve mechanical design functionality
Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electric motor functionality
Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Six Sigma or Lean skills

Education and Experience:

Working on BA/BS degree in engineering field

Valid US Driver’s License and transportation required. Ability to operate a rental car is required. Some travel necessary.
