IMEG was hired by a leading builder of industrial printing and labeling systems to improve their clean room production area layout.

THE PROBLEM

  • Operators have extra travel distance between operations
  • Clean line room space currently underutilized
  • Considerable part movement throughout the build process
  • Shared machines are located in a corner with high traffic

THE PLAN

  • Analyze current layout using spaghetti diagrams to document travel distance for operators
  • Identify floor space and machine usage for each assembly process
  • Develop multiple layout options considering operator line balance, travel distance, and target machine utilization
