IMEG was hired by a solenoid manufacturer to design and optimize a 53,000 square foot central materials supermarket for stock.

THE PROBLEM

  • Manufacturing and assembly areas have greater than 1,000 different parts
  • Limited floor space, low ceiling heights, forklift restrictions
  • Variability of product mix and volume
  • Limited budget for improvements

THE PLAN

  • Develop proposed supermarket layout designs in AutoCAD
  • Analyze wire shelving rack design
  • Evaluate layout designs based on travel distance, floor space, safety, and cost to implement
  • Reuse as many existing materials and equipment possible to reduce cost
  • Develop relocation schedule for all material markets and departments
