FINISHED GOODS WAREHOUSE LAYOUT

IMEG was hired by an RV appliance manufacturer to develop a layout for a 100,000-square-foot warehouse for finished goods.  

THE PROBLEM

  • No digital facility layout developed
  • Greatly reduced storage space with an increase in storage requirements
  • Insufficient current and forecasted inventory data
  • First In, First Out (FIFO) required
  • Undefined processes for storing and retrieving finished goods
  • Over 175 finished good SKUs with large variances in storage quantities
  • Required access to all warehouse utility locations

THE PLAN

  • Conduct field measuring to draw the warehouse in AutoCAD, including all utilities
  • Develop an inventory list detailing the current and maximum inventory levels for each SKU
  • Create warehouse layout designs in AutoCAD
  • Evaluate layout designs based on travel distance, floor space, shipping staging space, safety, and access to utilities
  • Identify requirements for warehouse signage

THE RESULTS
